The Lakes Basin Recreation Area is a painter's dream with so many vistas to paint that the hardest part of an artist's day is to choose which one. Bring your paints, pastels, or sketchpad and sit by a mountain lake with the music of a stream to put you in the perfect mood to be creative!
"I paint to celebrate the qualities of shifting light, long vistas of space that evoke possibility and freedom, and the brilliant tranquility of light on water"
Judy plein-air paints in oils and pastels when visiting the Lakes Basin. Silver Lake is her muse. One of her oil paintings is hanging in the Elwell Lakes Lodge's Dining Hall.

Sugie enjoys painting in acrylics. She would like to do plein-air painting, but hiking the trails in the Lakes Basin takes priority, so she takes photos and paints from them at home. You will find many of her paintings in the Dining Room of Elwell Lakes Lodge.
